Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 27, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.
The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting the week of Feb. 17 will be:
Monday, February 17, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.
Tuesday, February 18, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 6 p.m.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard. In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.
